Best Practices

Practice -1

1. Title of the Practice: Swachh Bharat Abhiyan in College

2. Objectives of the Practice:

The objective of this activity is to encourage our youth to actively take part in cleanliness drives in our city and villages. Swachh bharat abhiyan is s a country-wide campaign initiated by the Government of India in 2014 to eliminate open defecation and improve solid waste management. The activity ensures regular cleanliness drives by each department on rotation basis.

3.Context:

Solid waste management and promoting creation of toilets in village is very important. Our students are important link to our villages where theycan create awareness among their own villagers and promote hygiene and cleanliness.

4. The Practice:

College has devised a mechanism for maintaining cleanliness by engaging students and teachers on every Saturday. In which, every departments have been assigned on particular saturday i.e., First Saturday for Arts and commerce departments, second Saturday for science departments, third Saturday for BBA, BCA, TTM and B.Voc and Fourth saturday for NSS, NCC, Rover and Rangers and Hostels (Boys and Girls).

5. Evidences of success:

We have seen a very positive result of such activities and this helped to spread awareness to many villages of the city. Many of our student have become regular contributor in their own village and peform a smilar activity once or twice a month in their village.

6.Problems encountered & Resources Required:

At college level it is very hard to generate sufficient funds to provide direct help to villages. However we have seen increasing awareness of gram panchayat towards solid waste management and creation of toilets.

Practice -2

1. Title of the Practice: Promotion of Green Energy & Conservation of Energy

2. Objectives of the Practice:

The objective of this activity is to encourage our youth to understand the need of greenenergy and energy conservation.

3.Context:

Energy plays avital role in any society. However welive in world that doesn’t have sufficient power supply everywhere. This activty ensures students participation in energy conservation and promotion of green energy.

4. The Practice:

College has created energy preservation “Tolis”. These are student groups formed in college that monitor college energy consumtion and help to minimize misuse of energy.

These group actively monitors classrooms, library and labs and ensures electric appliances are not running in vein.

Also A grid connected Photovoltaic system consisting of solar panel has been installed on the rooftops of different buildings – Arts block, Library Building, Boys Hostel, and Science Block with capacity of 28KW, 6KW, 5 KW, and 5KW repectively. It will approximately meet 40 percents of the electricity consumption.

5. Evidences of success:

Energy preserving Tolis has done a marvelous job ensuring no electricty is wasted in college. This has also made our college aware of using green energy and role of energy conservation.

6.Problems encountered & Resources Required:

To fully utilize solar power and become a solar powered college, huge quantity of solar panels are required and these panel don’t come cheap. However we are on our way to reduce our power consumption and using solar power to run most of institute.
